Does My Small Business Need a Website?

April 10, 20174 min read

The last time that you looked for information, did you grab a Phone Book, Flyer, Newspaper or some other form of printed material? Probably not! The majority of people these days will go instantly to the web to find whatever it is they are looking for. So when considering if your small business needs a website, think about if you want more business, or if you are comfortable with the business you currently have.

There are many different ways to market your business. A few of them are:

  • Networking (handing out business cards)

  •  Direct mail (postcards, coupons, RSVP cards etc.)

  •  Print media (newspapers, magazines)

  •  Emails

  •  Trade shows

  •  PR

  •  Local Chambers

  •  Charity Events

When you think about it, how many people do you think are actually looking at and keeping those printed items, attending the events or responding to your emails, and then giving you business? Not to dissuade you from using any of those platforms, because they are all excellent ways of promoting your business and your brand, but there is another way to get your business out in front of people: A WEBSITE!

If you are a Small Business owner, you might be thinking that you aren’t a big enough brand to have a website, and are content with the Small Business life. Let’s look at all the benefits of having a website:

#1: Your customers expect it: Your customers want to be able to look at your products or services with the click of a button. If you are unable to be found online, you might be soon forgotten for another similar business because they were reachable online. Going back to printed material with your business information, just imagine if someone asks one of your customers for a recommendation. Don’t you want to be the one who is recommended? It would be great if your customer said, “I don’t have their business card but you can visit their website!”

#2. You’ll show up in Google search results: Consider this: 81 percent of consumers perform online research before making a purchase. That means they go to Google and type in one or more keywords, which gives your business the opportunity to be found just by a Google search. Long-tail keywords, meta descriptions, and titles are just some of the things you can customize on your site to improve your search engine optimization (SEO). Which leads into:

#3. Your competitors all have company websites: By having your own website, you are staying at the same playing level as your competitors. However, you can gain advantage by utilizing your website in ways that other companies might not be able to. A HUGE advantage of being a Small Business owner and running your own website is that it helps you control your online destiny. When you run your own website, you’re in control of both the content you produce and the platform you maintain.

#4. Showcase your products and services: Your website gives you the capability to show pictures, videos and have blogs written about your products and services. LOJO has a great Inbound Marketing packages that can help with this. This assists potential customers that are researching your company and brand, to see if it’s something they want to further pursue. It’s also a great way for existing customers and clients to see what new products or services are being offered.

#5. Never put up the ‘closed for business’ sign again: You will always be able to have orders coming in, people inquiring about your services or people researching your products while you are at home in bed, or out to dinner! You are able to live a more flexible life than always being tied to a storefront during your business hours.

#6. Customer Service: Saving the best for last, you are able to give the BEST Customer Service that you can. A website allows you to be able to connect with potential and current customers at any time of the day. They don’t have to wait until a store is open to email and ask questions. There can be a phone number available to them for if they have questions or concerns. Having Social Media buttons gives them an outlet to rave about the services that you have offered them.

If having a Small Business Website is something that you are considering, it is with no doubt one of the best moves that you can make for the growth of your business.

After spending several months reviewing multiple proposals from several different companies we engaged LOJO to develop a new website that represents our company effectively. We worked initially with Stephen Platte who helped create the scope of the project. Stephen was knowledgeable and always followed up with me on time and as promised.

He "closed the deal" for LOJO with his professionalism, service orientation and easy going approach. Once we signed the contract we were introduced to Jay Kelly who would be the creative lead for LOJO. This was the most challenging part of the project for my company, as there was no shortage of ideas from our side. Jay managed the project flawlessly, and once we had all agreed to the design, Jay introduced us to Eric.

Eric Lay is one of the founders of LOJO. Eric took the design we had developed and brought it to life. We delivered content as quickly as he requested it. Eric kept the project on task and we responded by exceeding every deadline for content. In turn, once provided, literally not a day went by that Eric didn't add the content and take the next step. In just a few weeks we launched our new website. Eric is a pleasure to work with.

His positive attitude and consultative approach really enhanced the experience and made a big difference for us in the outcome of our project. We would welcome you to visit our website to take a look at the quality work of LOJO. We are very pleased with LOJO and look forward to working with them in the future as we pursue an aggressive SEO strategy."
