Are you already starting to put together your social media calendar for the year 2020? Look at you trying to get a headstart before the holiday rush– good for you!
But do you sometimes feel like maybe, despite your shiny new 2020 social media calendar, you might be missing out on some holidays? Of course you can quickly ask your graphics guy to cobble up a quick greeting for you to post before the end of the day– but doesn’t that somehow defeat the purpose of scheduling your social media posts in advance?

There’s a plethora of holidays out there– great opportunities for your brand to engage your target audience in fun, creative ways. It’s also a great way for you to raise awareness for a particular topic, or get noticed within your industry.
(Needless to say, give your sales, marketing and/or business development teams a heads up first so you can help them come up with special holiday-centered promotions or special deals for your clients as well!)
So with that said, let’s dive right in and fix up your social media calendar for 2020 with this holiday guide:
Let’s start with the big ones– the national holidays. Plot these into your calendar first and prepare something special for your target audience: a special greeting at least, perhaps some useful tips, and maybe even a special limited time offer.
January 1. Wednesday, New Year’s Day #NewYearsDay
January 20. Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day #MLKDay (3rd Monday in January)
February 17. Monday, Presidents Day #PresidentsDay (3rd Monday in February)
May 25. Monday, Memorial Day #MemorialDay #MDW (Last Monday of May)
July 4. Saturday, Independence Day
September 7. Monday, Labor Day #LaborDay (First Monday of September)
November 26. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day #Thanksgiving
December 25. Friday, Christmas Day #Christmas
There’s just about a celebration or special day of observance for everything these days. We’re looking at a wide variety of these observances: some of these have the goal of raising awareness about a serious world issue, and then you have those that are more fun and frivolous.
Also note that while most holidays are fixed– meaning to say, they are associated with a particular date, other special observances are movable (such as in the case of, say, Thanksgiving).
Do take note of regional holidays and state holidays that also have an impact on your brand. Lastly, have a look at other special days of observance within your industry or space.
You don’t have to celebrate all these days. Just go through the list and pick out the dates and special holidays that are most relevant for your brand. Map these out into your social media calendar so you can start creating content for these soon.

After spending several months reviewing multiple proposals from several different companies we engaged LOJO to develop a new website that represents our company effectively. We worked initially with Stephen Platte who helped create the scope of the project. Stephen was knowledgeable and always followed up with me on time and as promised.
He "closed the deal" for LOJO with his professionalism, service orientation and easy going approach. Once we signed the contract we were introduced to Jay Kelly who would be the creative lead for LOJO. This was the most challenging part of the project for my company, as there was no shortage of ideas from our side. Jay managed the project flawlessly, and once we had all agreed to the design, Jay introduced us to Eric.
Eric Lay is one of the founders of LOJO. Eric took the design we had developed and brought it to life. We delivered content as quickly as he requested it. Eric kept the project on task and we responded by exceeding every deadline for content. In turn, once provided, literally not a day went by that Eric didn't add the content and take the next step. In just a few weeks we launched our new website. Eric is a pleasure to work with.
His positive attitude and consultative approach really enhanced the experience and made a big difference for us in the outcome of our project. We would welcome you to visit our website to take a look at the quality work of LOJO. We are very pleased with LOJO and look forward to working with them in the future as we pursue an aggressive SEO strategy."
